Hear what our patients have to say about their experience with neurofeedback therapy!

Husband (OCD and anxiety) and Wife (poor sleep, anxiety and impulsive reactions) using our At-Home Neurofeedback Rental Program

My husband recently did a month and a half of at home neurofeedback as treatment for his OCD and anxiety. The Installation and usage of the system could not have been easier or more convenient. Dr. Tom came to install the home system and we were up and running within 30 minutes. We now had access to train every day, multiple times a day if needed, right from the comfort of our own home.

Prior to starting the neurofeedback he was having extreme anxiety daily, struggling at work with focus, as well ruminating negative thoughts. He would come home and be almost nonfunctional at a family level.  It takes some time to see the results, but after a couple of weeks, I started to notice little changes. The first thing that improved was his sleeping.  He was very anxious and literally losing sleep – within 2 weeks he was sleeping soundly again.  Moving forward, after the first few weeks I noticed he was more motivated to do household projects without anyone prompting him.  What wife doesn’t love that!?  He cleaned and organized the entire garage one evening and the next day spent hours in the yard doing spring cleaning and planting new trees.  In general I have noticed more initiative in daily tasks which is SO helpful, especially in this crazy time where we are all working from home and parenting a toddler, a puppy and a cat.  He ended up doing about 40 sessions over 6 weeks that we had the system in our house.

Once I started to see subtle changes in my husband, I decided to start neurofeedback for myself to help with my sleeping and anxiety (in hindsight, I wish I had started sooner).  As a new mom, I found myself having a hard time sleeping – even after my son started sleeping through the night!  So while my 6 week old was sleeping soundly, I was tossing and turning all night.  I then found myself having a hard time focusing the next day, which was difficult to manage once I went back to work.

I ended up doing 25 sessions, and like my husband, I first noticed changes in my sleeping pattern.  I remember the first time I woke up after sleeping the entire night-I was absolutely shocked!  I hadn’t done that in over 2 years.  I have also noticed that when put into stressful situations where I normally would have had impulsive reactions, I was more calm and level headed in creating solutions.

This is one of the best investments I have made in myself and I highly recommend this process to anyone.  Norwalk Female (39)

ADD, Failed outcomes on stimulants

"I tried Neurofeedback Therapy because of my lack of motivation, distraction and ADD. I also couldn't focus in school, causing me to have bad grades. I was on Concerta and Vyvanse at different times for ADD, but nothing worked. Since Neurofeedback Therapy, I am much more focused and attentive and complete tasks much easier before I forget to do them. Mt personality has greatly changed overall. I am very comfortable recommending Neurofeedback Therapy because it could really benefit anyone with the slightest issue mentally."

ADD, Disorganized, Poor Grades, Constant Tutoring

I did Neurofeedback Therapy 2 years ago in the middle of 8th grade.  At the time, I had modifications to my school work, and I was going to Sylvan Learning Center (I had been there for the 3 years already (1 year reading, 2 years math).  At the end of 8th grade, had I received many awards from different teachers for “Most Improved”.  Since doing Neurofeedback Therapy, I can think more clearly and am much more organized.  I am more outgoing, feel much better about school, and have “High Honors”.  And I have become very neat – I love to clean now.  I am very happy that I did Neurofeedback Therapy with Dr. Tom and Dr. Laura.

Electronic Addiction, Poor Reading, Dyslexia.

I was trying to wait until tomorrow but I couldn’t wait!  “John” just woke up this morning and just grabbed a book can started reading it - completely on his own with me suggesting it.  He then brought it with him and read it whenever he could – while we were driving, during idle times, whenever he could - and by the end of the day, he had finished the whole book! He’s never done anything like this at all!  Thank you!

Panic Attacks, melancholy, difficulty with transitions.

"My 11 y.o. son did Neurofeedback Therapy this summer after having severe panic attacks last year that at times were paralyzing. Since Neurofeedback Therapy, he is doing much better. His anxiety revolved a lot around facing new situations, new places, and new people. Last summer, he couldn't even stay in camp due to his anxiety.

This summer, he attended 2 different camps, in different locations, each for 2 weeks, where each of the weeks had different kids. So, in essence he had to adjust to different settings 4 different times. Not only did he accomplish this, but he did so without his "not being good enough" and "always losing" attitude. In fact, he played so well in his last week of camp that he was given the MVP for the week.  While he still has worries at times about new beginnings, he is able to handle the worry, and not let it become an all consuming anxiety. I write this with extreme gratitude - thank you!"

Anxiety, self harm, and academic challenges.

“My 15 y.o. daughter was diagnosed 6 years ago with ADHD and a language-based learning disability that affected her both academically and socially. She also has anxiety and difficulty handling frustration since she was a little girl. Her anxiety got to the point where last year she started punching herself and scraping the skin off her arms with the metal part of a pencil during bouts of anger and frustration. It was at this point that we sought out Neurofeedback Therapy and the office of Dr. Tom Woodman.

Since doing Neurofeedback Therapy, we have seen many areas of her life improve. First, she tolerates frustration much better now, and has stopped all self-harming behavior. Socially, she is much more confident, which allowed her to develop new and more positive friendships over the summer. She is much more confident academically as well, and elected to take an AP English class, something that she has always shied away from in the past.

We appreciate your true caring. You were always available to answer questions, listen to concerns and tweak the program to accommodate for the challenges along the way. Although it was not easy for us to make the long drive to your office twice a week (75 minutes each direction), it was totally worth it. We are filled with gratitude to you, your office, and the therapy that you provide. Thank you.”

Anxiety, Social Withdrawal, Crohn's Disease
"Before starting Neurofeedback Therapy, I was an anxious fearful person. I was a 'constant thinker' and had a hard time shutting my brain down, especially at night. I was also very hard on myself if I made a mistake or did not do something perfectly. Since Neurofeedback Therapy, I am able to let these situations simply roll off my shoulders whereas before, I would think about it for weeks.
I also did not like meeting new people or being in new situations. I thought I was just a shy person. After going through the Neurofeedback program, I discovered that I'm not really shy at all. I was always just too nervous to try these new experiences. Now that my shyness is gone, I find that I look forward to being social. I even filled in as a player for my sisters beach volleyball team, which I never have done before Neurofeedback Therapy. Being able to say yes to new experiences has brought me many new opportunities that I was not open to before.

In addition, I have lived with Crohn's disease for 7 years now and I credit Neurofeedback Therapy for being one of my key therapies that has helped keep me in remission. Crohn's is a stress related illness, and remembering how sick I was, I cannot express enough how much this program has helped me manage my stress and maintain remission. I realize now that fear controlled my life. I was afraid of the future, my health, and other people. To live my life without fear has been the greatest blessing I could ask for. I feel like I can accomplish anything now."
                                                                                                                                                                                           -Norwalk, Female 23 years
 Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia
"In the past I was prone to anger outbursts, excessive swearing, paralyzing anxiety, easily stressed, depression, and difficulty falling asleep. After going through the Neurofeedback program, my anger and swearing have greatly diminished. While the anger is still there, I can manage it tremendously well which is a vast improvement from my previous state. I also have an easier time falling asleep at night with very vivid dreams. The little things do not stress me out as badly as they used to. The extreme stress I previously experienced now manifests after several large events, rather than one small event. Overall I have become a happier and more peaceful person. When I am stressed or anxious I think clearly, calmly and rationally rather than negatively lashing out. This reaction varies depending on the severity of the situation, but my negative reactions have decreased greatly. I am not as depressed and have developed a more positive attitude. One of the big issues I had before Neurofeedback Therapy was 'poor me' syndrome and constantly thinking of my shortcomings and things that were not going well in my life. Although this pattern remains, it is severely diminished and had mostly been replaced with a 'can-do' attitude.
Neurofeedback Therapy has also helped in my familial relationships because I am a happier person, I have more patience and less rage. As a result, I get along better with my family and the stress in out house is reduced. In addition, my job can be very stressful and toxic and I have seem great improvement in my handling of colleagues and overall work load. When an emergency arrives, I can think clearly and quickly to get it resolved. I do not panic or freeze, I can swiftly come up with a solution and get the issue corrected. I am very grateful for the positive outcomes I experienced with Neurofeedback Therapy."

Social and Academic Issues
"I am the mother of an intelligent seven year old girl who struggles socially and academically. After a lot of research into non-invasive treatment I enrolled her in Brain Balance with some success. From there we completed a 16 week Eye Therapy program also with some visible success. At the recommendation of out Doctor who understands my reluctance to use medication I enrolled my daughter in Neurofeedback Therapy.  Much to my delight we have seen immediate results. It is as if my daughter is in the throes of an awakening. She notices it as do family and her teacher. I would highly recommend Neurofeedback Therapy to any parent who is looking for a non-invasive medication-free treatment option with real results"
-Stratford mother of  7 year old female
Anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, ADD/ADHD
"For anyone who is suffering from depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, ADD/ADHD, etc., Neurofeedback Therapy is beyond belief. I was myself suffering from a tremendous case of anxiety and depression. I am and have always been open minded to new treatments that could help me, and may I say Neurofeedback Therapy is an amazing treatment (It works).  Dr. Tom and Dr. Laura, and their staff, are so helpful and friendly.

Anger Management
"I used to be a person that was always full of rage. This rage was a culmination of events in my life which were never treated. For this reason my life was in total disarray, but after my neurofeedback therapy sessions with you, I was able to finally overcome and control my anger issues.   I am now able to stop the anger before it built up and took over. Once I was able to control it, I learned how to redirect it in a more positive way. My life now is full of happiness and I can see my life with a better view and respect. I have you and your team to thank eternally for all the amazing work you did and continue to do. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
                                                                                                                                                                                                -Portchester male, 37 years
Impulsive, racing thoughts
"Before Neurofeedback Therapy, he had many impulsive thoughts and outbursts, excessive talking; disorganized thinking and expressive language. With Neurofeedback Therapy, racing thoughts decreased; talking calmed down; more focused thinking and improved organization. Better able to start projects and assignments; better behavior in school-less talking.  I'm comfortable recommending Neurofeedback Therapy because the results were immediate and lasting"
-Mother of a 12 year old boy
Insomnia, Stress
"Before Neurofeedback Therapy, I suffered from terrible insomnia. I cant remember a time in my life when I didn't struggle with my sleep. For the last 25 years, I sometimes went as long as 5 nights in a row with only an hour or two of sleep. I had a lot of anxiety before bed knowing that I wouldn't fall asleep. Since finishing the Neurofeedback Program, I no longer have these experiences. My sleep has improved 100%. It's like night and day. Now that I am falling asleep, and staying asleep through the night, I've noticed major improvements in my life. I have less anxiety and fatigue, and my focus, energy level and memory have improved significantly.
I'm also a school teacher and the beginning of the school year has always caused me a lot of stress and worry. The first month or so was especially difficult. I noticed right away after doing Neurofeedback Therapy over the summer that the stress and worry I previously experienced at the start of school was practically gone. I have an easier time adapting to change, especially in my teaching schedule. I feel less frazzled and more organized in my work life and personal life. The short temper that I used to have (especially when driving) is greatly reduced. My son has even commented on how much calmer and relaxed I am driving. I am also more willing to socialize and interact with new people, which I did not enjoy doing previously. My relationships with everyone in my life has greatly improved after going through this program, and I would highly recommend Neurofeedback Therapy to anyone looking to improve their way of life in any way."

Sleep, Eating Habits
"I was always tired. I felt that I tried to overcome feeling tired by eating too much and having wine at night to try to sleep better. With Neurofeedback Therapy, my sleep has improved; I'm rested each morning. I feel more focused. I feel I'm eating better as a result. My eating habits have improved; I'm not tying to feel better by eating, and I'm not trying to sleep better by using alcohol. I'm comfortable recommending BrainCore to others because it's non-invasive, easy to do and it gave me the results I was looking for."

Sleep, Fatigue
"After completing Neurofeedback Therapy, I no longer fall asleep in the middle of the day, or nod off in the evenings while hosting family and friends. Overall, this has significantly helped me be more alert and less fatigued."

Stress, OCD thoughts, sleep
"In the fall of 2014, after being under increased work stress and feeling unusually tired and anxious I decided to do Neurofeedback Therapy with Dr. Tom. During the summer, the company I work at (which is very results/performance oriented and will actively turn employees over) went through a large staffing overhaul. Although I was not let go, I was having a very challenging performance year and really faced with a much higher probability of failure than I ever experienced in my working career. I have a very analytical mind which tends to overthink most things and with the spectra of being fired looming (after having made significant life changes to move to the suburbs out of NYC), I was having a very hard time staying present and being focused on success at work. Instead I found myself trapped in an almost OCD-like thought trap related to what I would do if I was fired, whom I would call, how long my commute would be, would I have to move back to NYC, how would having kids impact this, should I switch career fields, etc. Increasingly, my sleep became less effective as no matter hoe much I tried to catch up I just felt exhausted everyday (multiple snoozes and hard to get going). On top of that , my home life was impacted by the OCD-like thought compulsion as it became almost impossible to talk or think about anything other than work, if I was going to get fired and what I would do if I did get fired. Aside from that dinner topics included silence and/or just avoidance as I would come home too fatigued to interact. It was clear that something needed to change so that I could either put my best foot forward at work again or at least gain enough clarity & perspective to make career changes without the added strain of the mental fatigue of being so anxious.
After 20+ Neurofeedback Therapy sessions, I can definitely say that I feel much different.  Within the first two weeks I noticed my sleep was much better-I would wake up ahead of my alarm and actually feel alert and ready for work. Over the course of the treatment, I also noticed a marked decline in my anxiety and the OCD-thought compulsion stopped. I was able to focus and work more efficiently without the burden of "what-if" thoughts popping up daily. At home, dinner conversations steered away from me and work towards current events, politics, travel plans, family, friends, etc. and we actually found ourselves laughing and enjoying each other's company for several hours a night. I think this contributed to a positive feedback loop of feeling happier and more settled or grounded. I have always had some degree of anxiety (never panic attacks but I like to understand things, plan and have answers) and I have noticed that I just operate in a way that is more free of worry now. Although work hasn't necessarily gotten markedly easier, I have given myself the intellectual freedom to operate better with less stress and also to have the space from my own worries to assess clearly whether this is a career I want to stay in. I am very pleased that Neurofeedback Therapy contributed to this positive outcome."

Sports Optimization
"Dr. Tom, yesterdays competition made me a firm believer. I went through 4 grueling workouts, taking 2nd out of 40 in each and every event by a long shot. The only one ahead had me by 20 seconds in each event. The rest of the pack was over 2 minutes behind me.  Ability aside, my mental game was unreal. While there were many opportunities to stop and take an extra breath, or let negative thoughts flow through me, none of that ever crossed my mind. I grinded through each phase of the workouts, focused on controlling my breathing, and relied on my training to carry me through. I'm not going to lie, it was almost scary that I pushed myself that hard. Bottom line, let's keep this train rolling - I'm excited to see the final stop. Thank you so much already!

I would absolutely recommend that anyone try Neurofeedback Therapy with Dr. Tom - it has the potential to affect so many aspects of your life that you really won't understand until you do it."

Headaches, Sleep
"I wanted to drop you a note to tell you how satisfied I am with your neurofeedback training I just completed this spring. As you know, I was intrigued when you first told me you were adding this treatment to your chiropractic practice, so I patiently waited until you were set up and believe I was one of your first patients.

As you know I have had problems with headaches but also with getting a good night's sleep. Towards the end and especially after completing the sessions I started to realize that I was sleeping better than I ever did before, not getting up in the middle of the night and having a terrible time getting back to sleep. I also noticed that the frequency of my headaches had diminished. I don't know if this was just another benefit of the neurofeedback or better rest but it definitely makes for a better life.

The bonus benefit I derived from this training, however, is my alertness and organization skills. I have a very busy schedule and am involved in many communication boards and organizations. I find, even to this day, that I have a very good handle on balancing all of the various tasks  I am assigned to and my confidence level has skyrocketed. I also feel I am less shy about speaking up or in speaking my mind, something I never did before.

I look forward to coming in for some refresher sessions in the near future to keep this "new me" going.  Thank you so much for turning me on to this.
                                                                                                                                                                                                         -Stamford male, 64 years
Chronic Pain, Anxiety/Depression

"About 18 months ago, an MRI showed I had a pinched nerve in my lower back, which caused sharp pain and extended down to my leg and foot. This became chronic pain that made it difficult to stay on top of the depression/anxiety I was trying to control. Sixteen years ago I was prescribed depression/anxiety meds. About 5 years ago, I was able to get off the meds with the help of kinesiology and meditation, though these techniques didn't help with the pain. Starting in the fall of 2009, I spent an entire year trying different things for the pain. I went to an orthopedic doctor who prescribed pain medication, physical therapy and eventually he sent me to a pain doctor who gave me three cortisone shots in my back to no avail.. I then spent several months going to a chiropractic neurologist, and finally I went for 20+ sessions of spinal decompression, but still had a fair amount of pain. Some of these things helped more than others, but the pain was still significant and I meditated daily to try and control the depression/anxiety, which seemed to get worse because of the pain.

The change I have experienced with Neurofeedback Therapy? The pain is practically gone. My mind is definitely calmer, more focused and balanced. Without constant pain, I am calmer and less emotional, my relationship with my teenage son has improved significantly, and my social anxiety has decreased quite a bit as well. I would recommend Neurofeedback Therapy because it would have saved me a lot of time, money and pain. Also taking a medication every day has its risks - if I had known about Neurofeedback Therapy16 years ago, I don't think I would have even needed depression meds.
                                                                                                                                                                                                      -Female, 52 years
Migraines
"I have suffered from migraines for over 30 years. I have tried medications but found the after effects to be as debilitating as the headache. As I have aged the migraines have nor been as frequent and at times I thought they were gone. But two years ago I had an awful migraine that was lasing for more days than I cared to count. When I shared this with Dr. Laura, she suggested Neurofeedback Therapy. I tried it and am happy to report the migraines ceased without medication! I went almost a full year without a headache! Apparently April is a stressful time for me, as I had another migraine a year later. But I did not suffer through days of headaches. I immediately asked for some more Neurofeedback sessions. The headache quickly ceased. And I have been migraine free since April! I find Neurofeedback Therapy a better option for me because it is a drug free, pain free and most importantly...IT WORKED!

"I just want to update you after doing the Neurofeedback Therapy program this past winter. I went back to school and soon realized I was reacting differently to things that would usually trigger my anxiety. I was able to concentrate significantly more in class and my short term memory increased. In my life, I was never able to get more than a 3.1 GPA, even with accommodations that included extra time, a different room setting, and a notecard to help trigger my memory. But this past semester, after BrainCore, I decided not to use my accommodations and achieved a 3.5 GPA and made the Dean List! And I made this GPA while taking one of the most difficult classes for me - math. I was able to memorize and understand the problems with ease, unlike ever before!"

Peak Performance
"Our son is an absolutely changed kid! He's happy, has a girlfriend, traveled to Europe with her family and then traveled home alone without any issue; had wisdom teeth pulled today and still is skipping around like he did when he was a kid. Had an injury this past lacrosse season but he never let it get him down. He won the coaches award for just pushing through adversity and still doing what he needed to do to be part of the team; he's excited about college. Thank you!
